It’s one of those places where you could eat forever, and not realize you’re stuffed until you get up to go. I had to hold myself back to make sure I fit in the bridesmaid’s dress the next day. H’s family knows the owner and go there pretty regularly now, so I’m really looking forward to more visits to this little Chinese restaurant.

You might not realize how much you love someone until:

-you’re doing something that causes anxiety, because you want to help them out. B asked me to be her bridesmaid a year ago, and I was very against these idea. I don’t have the type of energy to do these things! I think it’s one of the reasons I’ve been so drained… Just the thought of being a bridesmaid stresses me out.

-you’re waking up every hour to make sure your alarm hadn’t gone off yet. Makeup and hair at 4AM. Sharp.
IMG_20160919_234125

-the tears start welling up in your eyes. B walked down the aisle, and was already tearing up. D was 2 minutes into her speech, and I started tearing up.
IMG_20160920_232044

-you’re pacing around the room to stay awake. I tried tea, sugar, walking around in circles. Would I would do this for H? I wouldn’t be able to sleep anyways.
IMG_20160920_232125

-somebody else points it out. T said to H: She really loves you, you know?

It couldn’t have turned out better. Weather, timing, food:

We were at Kirin at Starlight Casino, and it was just about the best Chinese food I’ve ever had (maybe it was the wine too). Above is the abalone we sampled that night, and it tasted as good as it looked. Just the right amount of savouriness, perfect chewy texture. I don’t know about other Kirin’s, but this one was impressive.

Now I know abalone is not the most ethical food to have… But it’s not like we have it everyday and it is a Chinese tradition. It’s not fair to ask us to give us our cultural traditions if others can keep theirs despite endangering the lives of animals or even the environment.
Received my gift for preordering:

Going to sell it. Above video filmed on my new S7 Edge, which I finally exchanged from the Note 7.

The guys at the Richmond Samsung store weren’t much better than the Metrotown ones. They gave me the evil eye for asking to switch. Either way… I’m pretty happy with this phone so far. Waiting for the new iPhone 8 to come out next year…

Labour day long weekend came and went. Some great memories with H, and the Point Grey homies (PNW).

Cheers!

We visited the Lakeside Dining Room at the Hotel Eldorado for brunch:
Fabulous.

Supercalifragilicious.
There were so many options! Alaskan king crab, mussels, shrimp, waffles, eggs benedict, omelettes, and real chicken, didn’t taste like it was made in bulk although it was. There was a roast beef station with one lonely chef manning it. He was also making the omelettes and the waffles, handling the line up like a pro. Then, there was the dessert table – fluffy tiramisu, creamy crème brûlée, chocolate cake and cheesecake, and MORE. Sometimes buffets are just disgusting, because all the food is cold and just looking sad, but this was nothing like that. It was definitely one of the best buffets I remember going to my life (perhaps the fact that we were starving from all the wine tours contributed to the deliciousness).

Us after the brunch.

It was a nice chill weekend, nothing strenuous, other than stretching our tummies. I love going to the Okanagan! Maybe H and I will make it a yearly thing, and eventually visit ALL the wineries there!
Real life caught up though, and the Samsung Note 7 exploding batteries are really traumatizing me. It doesn’t help that J at work keeps sending me links about exploding Jeeps, garages burning down, and warnings to not use the phone. Apparently some airlines are banning the use of Note 7’s. The Samsung store reps are just horrid though – they don’t really care about helping the customers and wouldn’t let me return my phone without all the accessories in hand. Their response to the whole thing:
“Samsung prioritizes the safety of their customers, but to date, there have been no instances of the Note 7 exploding in Canada.”
What if it’s my phone that is the one in a million explosive one? The sales reps at the Metrotown store just brushed me off. He showed me that he still had his Note 7 in his pocket, and seemed to insinuate that I’m wasting his time. I can see you’re busy, but providing customer service and helping out your customers is what you’re paid to do. The sales rep made me feel stupid for even coming into the store to ask him to exchange my phone when it’s their manufacturing defect that is inconveniencing all their customers. Horrible experience, after paying close to $1000. If I’m crazy and the phones are actually safe to use, why is Samsung bothering to recall them?

Others are having a tough time exchanging their phones too, and apparently, it should be powered off now.

Well, let’s just hope nobody gets hurt in this. I’m not charging my phone overnight if I can help it, but it's my alarm for work... 24 in a million chance it will explode...

Let’s do this.

Strawberry.

Duffin's Donuts, a local favourite. My favourite donut place right now, conveniently a small 5 minute detour from the regular work route.

This must be the best and freshest donut, for the price. Can my mind be changed?

I think September will be spectacular.

H was having a tough day. I was dealing with some work. We were both grumpy, but I wasn’t ready to let the day end on a sour note, so I forced H to come out to eat with me. We tried to go to Ramengers, but it was shut down (permanently?). We considered Chosun, but there was a 30 minute wait. What else is there along the Kingsway corridor that is worth putting into our mouths?!

It had to be somewhere new because all the other restaurants in the area were not going to satisfy us. I recall Pat had mentioned a new Shanghai restaurant in the area…

$16.50 for 2 people.

Wang’s xiao long bao was filled with soup, dan dan noodles were just the right amount of flavour. We also had the pan fried pork buns, which were OK, won’t be ordering these again. Good food lifted our moods. I’ll be back soon.
