Here’s our 2nd meal of braised meat on rice for this trip:

meat on rice

We ordered an egg to go with it this time, because the meat juices and the perfectly marinated egg with the runny egg yolk go so well together. This place had just 1 lady running the show. Here’s her shop sign:

Come by here, in the Dongmen Market, if you’re in the neighborhood. It’s got a very hole in the wall feel.

Then, we went for a post breakfast snack of xiao long bao at Su Hang, as recommended by a Taiwanese coworker:

just OK

There was a short wait to get a table, during which we watched the xiao long bao’s get wrapped up and steamed. Overall, the service was good enough, but the food was just OK, didn’t really stand out. Then again, we came here half full already.

Finally, we walked over to my coffee shop:

I gotta work on the presentation a bit, there’s no latte art!

louisa coffee

Just kidding, it’s not my coffee shop. It’s a coffee shop chain called Louisa Coffee that seems to be quite popular in Taipei.

What would the world be like if we were brave enough to believe in our own ability? Like my ability to eat everything.
This week was rather busy again…

Monday – Scout volunteer event at Ceili’s with H.
Tuesday – Victoria Sushi with a couple of Point Grey coworkers.
Wednesday – This happened:

Went to G-Men with R. I LOVE THIS NOODLE. The soup is thick and creamy. The meat and the noodles are cooked just right. The egg is the best part, yolk is perfect. I think this came to $15.00 each. Don’t bother with fried chicken next time.

Thursday – Yoga
Friday – Made some dumplings with P and H.
Today – Work at the Vancouver Farmer’s Market, bought some Pork & Apple sausage from Stapleton Sausage. Good brunch materials. 33 Acres Brewing was there today, being all L33T with the B33R. #nerd.
@33acresbrewing was @vanmarkets today. (at Trout Lake Farmers Market)

It's actually pretty hard to do some of the tasks that are required for setting up the market. I'm small and not used to the manual labor. Carrying those barricades are THE WORST. Usually when I help out at HSCPC events, I wouldn't touch that stuff and somebody (usually a big buff guy who wants to go into policing) would step up. If you see me there next time, please take pity and help me out.

Tomorrow will be the first day I get to relax a bit, although things likely won’t slow down until the end of June.

Another summery song by R3HAB:

You were my conductor of energy, director of fantasy…
It was a busy week and I could not blog everyday, but H has requested I do a post so here it is.

On Wednesday, I went out with the coworkers to House of Prime Rib where the prime rib just melts on your tongue and it's so flavourful but not too salty. (The alcohol probably made it taste better too.) $43 USD gets you 6 ounces of this magical melting beef, corn bread, a salad (the serving of the salad was like a show where the server spins the huge salad bowl and pours on the sauce from a meter above it), mashed or baked potato (I had mashed), and creamed spinach.

I would come back, and make sure to get a reservation 2 or 3 months in advance.

So good. The perfect way to end a whole day spent on your feet, talking to people who use too many 4 syllable scientific words ("I would like to use this camera to build my hyperspectrometer and maybe record the photons splitting in my laser lab",  for example).

The next night was the last night of the show and we went for a drive around the city. Ended up getting a great view of the Golden Gate bridge and surrounding San Francisco / Bay area.
Staying with G tonight to save 300$ on hotel fees! Excited for tomorrow, I am.
