Las Vegas, NV.  Eat, sleep, shop, play. Repeat.

My letter of acceptance into part time studies at BCIT for the Advanced Specialty Certificate in Forensic Investigation – Forensic Science Option arrived in the mail today. I am officially a BCIT Forensic Science student. Linda Becerra, the program acceptor for part-time studies at BCIT, actually signed the letter by hand with a blue pen! I feel special now…

“Do you sell this here?”                                             “Whaaaat…? This….? No… We don’t.”

“Do you even know what you are talking about? YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.” “Fine, call this number or email this dude instead.”

“NO I DON’T HAVE TIME TO DO THAT, I am just trying to source it and find it so that I can use it NOW. JUST PUT ME THROUGH TO SOMEONE NOW.” “Sorry about that.  Try these companies instead… I’ll spell it out for you.”

“WHAT? WHAT WAS THAT? X? O? N? I CAN’T HEAR YOU, YOU AREN’T SPEAKING CLEARLY.” “Sorry, let me repeat that.”

You weren’t listening closely. Don’t get angry because someone who already tried to help you can’t solve your problem.  Blame your lack of organizational skills and your incompetence at finding what you need.  If we don’t have it, we don’t have it.  We’re not trying to sabotage your project. Seriously.  I don’t even know you.

I need to learn to speak like I know what I’m doing, even when I don’t, but it’s really hard with a stuffed nose and a headache.

“You’re being weird.”

“How am I being weird? You’re being weird!”

“Now you’re being weird and stupid.”

I love Dexter.

Jenna @BCIT called me 2 days ago during work, asking me to update my credit card information (I had put down my Visa number for my old card that was dropped at Library Square…).  I told her I’d call her back by dialing back, since I had caller ID.  Unfortunately, caller ID showed the name “BCIT”, but there was no record of the phone number!  So, I spent my lunch hour searching through the BCIT contact list on their website.  I think I would’ve found it, if I wasn’t looking for “Janice” instead of “Jenna”.  Woops.

The next day, she called back right when I was getting off work.  Perfect timing. Thanks!

My Admission Status for the Forensic Science, ASC has now been updated to:

Unassessed; Not Yet Reviewed

I never thought I’d say this, but after 3 months of working, I am excited to get back to school…

How many people actually apply for the BCIT Forensics program each year?

Well, I was one of the people who attended the Forensics Open House to pick up an application package after listening to them chit chat about all their programs.  I then took about a month to finish and submit an application in June/July for the Forensics Science ASc program, to start class in January.  The application consisted of a criminal record check and a few transcripts, which cost a total of ~$50, in addition to an application fee of about $60.  I mailed in the application through Canada Post, which was just ending their strike at the time.  All that was left for me to do was wait for them to contact me about my application!

So I waited… and waited and waited.   It was supposed to take about 6-8 weeks for them to process my application, so I gave them some time.  August… September… October came, and it was time for the next recruitment session.  It was time to call them and check up on my application.

The Woman @ BCIT was not able to find any record of my application, and she sent me an application through email instead to speed up the process.  I got to work filling out the new application and collecting all the bits and pieces that were required (another criminal record check, transcripts).  What else could I have done?

A month later, and everything was ready to be sent in again.  The day I was going to send it out, I get an email from the Woman @ BCIT telling me that they had received my application package, and that they would review it before sending it in to the Registrar’s office. I thought there must be some sort of mistake!

I called in again to make sure that they really had my application form and indeed they did.  It turns out that Woman @ BCIT had given my forms to Man @ BCIT to check that they were done properly.  They both forgot that they had my forms, and they were misplaced somewhere at BCIT.  Recently, Man @ BCIT found the forms, reviewed them, and returned them to Woman @ BCIT, who finally emailed me confirmation that they had my application.  At least they let me know before I sent in the 2nd application...

Woman @ BCIT emailed me again last night to inform me that they were submitting my application to the Registrar’s office.  Let’s see what happens next…

I was so addicted to Pumpkin Spice Lattes (PSL) last year.

After driving my brother to work all the way at the South Terminal, I discovered that the only place open for coffee on a Saturday at 6AM is Starbucks.  The cops were there, a man walking his fluffy little dog, and a man sitting all alone in a corner nursing his coffee…

what was i thinking?

This month is taking forever to go by.  I am so tired of waking up to the sound of my alarm clock, and running out of my house onto the dark street to catch a ride from my co-worker (“OH SHIT SHE TEXTED ME THAT SHE JUST LEFT 5 MIN. AGO? FUCK.”) When we get to Knight, there’s always construction.  When we get to work, the air always smells a bit like a mix of manure, fish, and gasoline.  Every morning, I sit at my desk and watch the sky slowly get brighter behind the Tree With The Red Leaves (TWTRL).  By the time the sun’s up, my brain will finally have warmed up so I can get some work done.

Then, it’s just a barrage of phone calls, emails, and faxes.

It’s a good thing Halloween is at the end of the month.  It’s a good excuse to go wild.

Halloween Pumpkin Potage. Looks easy enough to make, but it would make Halloween too scary if I tried to cook.

I never believed in anything when I was a kid. How could I with the parents I had? They were really lame about Santa Claus.  They hid the present under my pillow on the night of Boxing Day, so that my brother and I discovered the presents on the morning of the 27th.  My mom then told us“If you don’t like it, I can take it back and refund it… OH I MEAN, give it back to Santa.”

“Welcome to the Dunbar Haunted House…”
missus of the... factory?I wanted to try the little clown's hat, but he wouldn't let me.
They moved locations this year because of complaints from the locals living at the old site.  It is now located at 8934 Shaughnessy Street (in other words, the middle of nowhere). Imagine getting lost while driving on a secluded road with dark, empty industrial buildings lining the side.  Fog starts floating up, and there’s not a living soul in sight…
Well, there were one or two other cars getting lost along the way to the house too because it’s just so damn hard to find.
The house was really nicely decorated, and the actors were quite good.  I screamed like a little girl.

I left the theatre not really liking this movie (too violent, sinister, disturbing…).  The music was awesome though, so I downloaded the soundtrack.

Kavinsky’s Nightcall was on replay for a while yesterday.  Now, I can’t stop thinking about the movie.  Ryan Gosling on the big screen is probably adding to the obsession.  [I didn’t notice that he remained unnamed throughout the entire movie my buddy pointed it out! Blew my mind. ]

Time to hunt down the book that the movie was based on.

iPod touch, A Rose for the Crown, Keys, Laptop, Moet

Got out of bed early on a Sunday morning with no plans, so I listened to some music on my new iPod touch, read a bit of A Rose for the Crown, watched a few episodes of Seinfeld, had some tea… Too bad we emptied the bottle of Moet during Thanksgiving last weekend.  It would have been a nice morning pick-me-up.

Seinfeld’s stereotype of gay men: thin, single, and neat.  Sounds attractive, doesn’t it?

Rewatching Seinfeld.  It’s the best.

Blog of the Year

I’m looking forward to watching his movies, including but not limited to: Drive, Ides of March (Oct. 7, 2011), Blue Valentine, The Gangster Squad (2013), All Good Things, Murder by Numbers…  Guess what I’ll be doing this weekend?

According to Wikipedia, he was arrested in 2005 for a DUI.  So he’s not perfect,  but I can live with that.

The Merchant of Venice at Bard on the Beach was amazing, so I decided to reread the play.

I swear it says The Merchant of Venice under the library bar code.

I think this may be my favourite Shakespeare play.  The blatant racism in it makes me laugh.  Poor Shylock.

Some prankster called us at work, and I happened to be the one who picked up the call.  He called in asking about the office printer, so that he could send us an “updated” manual for it.  It all sounded very legitimate and professional, until the end of the conversation.  Just when I was about to end the conversation, he says, “Now that we’ve got that out of the way, do you want to have sex?

That caught me completely off guard, because he said it so smoothly.  All I could do was laugh, and then I hung up on him.  I should feel more disturbed, but I find it more hilarious how sick and bored people are these days.

What else?

Woke up late, no coffee, feeling terrible, just as predicted.

Finished Kite Runner:

I apologize for the bad picture. I have a headache and it's been a long day.

It was interesting while it lasted, but I probably won’t read it again.  Wouldn’t mind finding out more about the history of the Middle East and all the conflicts going on right now… I really haven’t been keeping up with International news, unless Asian pop culture counts.

Oh, Kite Runner was adapted into a movie

Today was good, so tomorrow will be bad, and the day will be good, and the day after that will be bad… It’s always relative to the day before, so today might have felt like a bad day, if yesterday had felt like a good one.  You get what I mean?

Went and bought myself a mouse to play Spiral Knights (forever known as SK).  Plugged it in, started using it, and realized immediately that I haven’t been living for the past 2 years that I didn’t use a mouse with my laptop. Life changing moment.

life changer.

So because I now own a working mouse, I played computer games instead of read the books that I found this weekend.  Also listened to the Foster the People album about 10 times while I chopped jellies in SK.

This weekend has really tired me out.  Even my mom noticed how withdrawn and sad I seem today.

Despite my moodiness, Antomy Ng still made me laugh with his cringe worthy lameness:

Antomy Ng says:
  get a mouse, man
  we'wll go kill jelly
Louisa says:
  fffffffff cannot
Antomy Ng says:
  why cannot get mouse?
Louisa says:
hm. guess i could go find a cheap one somewhere
Antomy Ng says:
  lawl
pet store
  LOOOL

Also check out the Hello Kitty onesie!  I need to get me one of those.

This is one of the reasons I feel lucky:

Le Love

Le Love, a blog “dedicated to love. the good, the bad and the unknown.”  They’ve got pretty pictures, sappy love stories, heart breaking stories, inspirational tales of love.

So this book, Catfish and Mandala….

Almost done.  I get the catfish part, because, according to the author, Vietnamese people eat a lot of catfish cooked in claypots with fishsauce, and the main character, An, enjoys it greatly.  Apparently, catfish also live in ponds that are used as latrines; there are bridges with holes resembling a Port-A-Potty, except the individual does his business into the pond.  These catfish in the pond gather under the person using the “washroom”, and are thus able to obtain a very nutritious meal…

An has been running away from all his (family) problems so far, but I think he’ll deal with them soon, since the book is ending in less than 100 pages.  Wish I could just run away to my homeland and bike around all day and eat chocolate and meet interesting strangers.

On the other hand, work is helping me truly appreciate the many other aspects of my life.

My old blog expired, and I need a place to vent my boredom.

I'm one month into my new job, and I am surprised to say that I'm not hating it. Hearing the phone ring makes me cringe sometimes.  Today, five different customers called at the same time, and the phone was literally ringing off the hook.  It felt like the phone was screaming at us (us = me, the other ISR, and the receptionist).

"FIND ME THIS ITEM. WE NEED IT NOW. I CAN'T WAIT A WEEK."

I'm working on it. Don't bite my head off through the telephone please.

On the other hand, I finished Catch-22.  I loved it from the 1st chapter when the soldier wrapped from head to toe in bandages died, and Yossarian and Dunbar vehemently accused the nurse of killing him. It was a 10/10 from the beginning.

Next up... Mandala and Catfish, and my Sept. 2011 issue of NYLON.
